The objectives of The Carr Mara Golf Competition are to honour the lives of Joe Carr and Wellington Mara through a friendly competition among Irish and United States golf clubs and to create and foster relationships among members of the clubs and the creation of a bi-annual four year scholarship for a young Irish Man or Woman at Fordham University in New York.

The competition is a bi-annual with clubs from Ireland competing against an equal number of clubs from the United States.

The Carr Mara Scholarship.
Fordham University has been selected for the scholarship because Wellington Mara graduated from here. The Carr Mara Foundation, a New York Not-For-Profit Corporation will be resposible for overseeing the funding of a trust, the income of which will be used to fund the scholarships, and determining the recipients of the scholarships.
